Writer, Poet, Flower Child, Perpetual Student, Bibliophile, Technophile, Nature Lover, Mermaid…

I’m excited to find a home for my blog writing on Medium. I have written on many platforms over the years starting with AOL in the late 90’s. When Medium first started, I was writing on WordPress and Blogger. I wish I would have paid more attention when I first heard of this platform for passionate writers and voracious readers, but no worries, I’m here now with you!

I love Medium’s clean design with no annoying pop-ups or banner ads. …

Dancing down the rabbit hole with guitar gods

Another night of insomnia. Up late, scrolling social media when I ran across a Twitter post asking us to name the greatest guitar solo of all time. Down the rabbit hole, I go!

Do you want to come along? If so, kick back and read on…

The first guitar solo that came to mind was Prince owning the stage with Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynn, and the boys playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps. I’m a big fan of The Purple One in case you didn’t know.

A lot of people listed Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd as their favorite…

A poem about poets and the power of words

In honor of World Book Day and National Poetry Month, I thought I would share a poem I wrote about what poetic words mean to me. And the inspiration behind these words…

Elixir

I drink the elixir of your words
to calm my nerves,
to hear the crunch of leaves
on my way to brighter days,
to see another creative soul
soar above the chaos of a broken life,
to witness corrosion turn to gold,
to prolong the beauty of this moment,
indefinitely.

Elixir was inspired by the song Words by Barry Gibb. I love the remake he did with…

Social media, security, stoicism…

I started my day reading emails. I noticed a few from Facebook alerting me that my password had changed. They saw suspicious activity and suspended my account. Wow. Okay!

I never click on email links requesting verification information. I went directly to Facebook to sign in and sure enough I couldn’t get in. I changed my password, put in the required pass codes, and thought that would set everything straight, but no, I’m blocked, awaiting Facebook review, whenever that will be. No further information is available.

When Facebook first came on the scene, I was among the early adopters to…

Technology and the art of listening to your body

How ironic that I recently wrote about why I don’t go to the doctor, and now I’m writing about why it’s necessary to go to the doctor.

I doubt anyone likes going to the doctor, but I have almost a phobia about it. I will take supplements every day, but I absolutely hate taking prescription medication for many reasons. The main reason is that I don’t want to be dependent on any drugs. I also believe in holistic healing and functional medicine. …

A Poem about nature and relationships

I wrote this poem under my pen name for an anthology, Under a Blushing Sky: Poems about New Beginnings, to benefit a local women’s shelter.

I also plan to publish this poem in a nature anthology I’m working on now that launches April 22, 2021. The proceeds from this book will also be donated to a worthy charity that will be selected on Earth Day.

I love writing poems for good causes. It is my favorite thing to do with this gift God has given me. I also like sharing it here to hopefully…

My contribution to National Child Abuse Prevention Month — What’s your story?

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. As a child abuse survivor, it is a subject near and dear to me.

The poem I’m sharing today is a revision from Break The Cycle Volume II. I published these anthologies to help support child abuse awareness and prevention programs like Prevent Child Abuse America and First Light Child Advocacy Center.

Often with child abuse, adults refuse to see the abuse or believe the child. …

The Riff live music challenge takes me to 1975

Noah Levy, the editor of The Riff, posted a writing challenge about your favorite live show. My favorite live shows have always been local indie musicians. I love attending local talent contests and concerts in the park.

My first memory of a live music show was the Hootenanny in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Attending the Hootenanny, aka concerts in the park, on Saturday nights was one of the few times I felt like a normal kid instead of being sad and shy.

I was so curious about everything, from the talent on stage to what was happening backstage. I made up…

Can take you places you didn’t know you wanted to go

Do you ever get a song stuck in your head? I do all the time! I woke up this morning with Sedona by Houndmouth playing on the radio of my mind. I don’t know why. I’ve only heard the song a few times. Maybe for this moment, where I introduce it to someone who needs to listen to it. Perhaps the rabbit hole it leads to. Or just a cosmic ride away from too much reality.

What is this rabbit hole I speak of? Music lovers know! You YouTube the song, read the comments, search for the lyrics, check out…
