The poem I am sharing today for National Poetry Month is titled Healing Hearts. I published it in my SCARS anthology that will officially launch Thursday, May 4, 2023 to honor National Mental Health Awareness Month.

Proceeds from the SCARS book will be donated to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI.org) and 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (988lifeline.org).

See below for more info about the book launch and poetry reading!

The poem Healing Hearts was inspired by my muse and that feeling you get when you meet someone that you would swear you have met before — maybe in a different lifetime? And in a way that you would have never imagined, by meeting this person, you bridge the pain of your past to heal and serve the greater good. It’s surreal.

Healing Hearts

by Kathy Chaffin Gerstorff

My soul knows your soul.
My scars match your scars.
We misunderstood our connection.
It was not meant to be of the flesh or ego.
It was divine intervention,
guiding us to our earthly assignment.
A calling to use our trauma to learn the power of forgiveness
and unconditional love.
Then share a message of hope from our healing hearts
to the world, at this appointed time, so all will know we are one.
Your pain is my pain.
Your joy is my joy.
