If your ship has sailed, stay awake at 3 a.m., check your algorithms, and start swimming! ~ WriterKat

I watched The Social Dilemma documentary a few days ago and it confirmed what I already knew… everyone that connects to the internet is at the mercy of marketers.

Maybe it’s just me, but I like the algorithms knowing what I’m most likely to watch, read, do, buy, etc. I like seeing the percentage of likelihood I will enjoy a movie on Netflix. They are right, I rarely like movies rated below 90%. I don’t watch TV that much, so their recommendation makes my chill time count. Same with suggestions on Google and Amazon. Go ahead, show me what new books I might like based on books I’ve read. Thanks for letting me know I already purchased that book a few years ago on Audible and saving me money from buying the same book two or three times!

I often get insomnia. (I’m sure there’s an App for that.) Meditation and deep breathing works sometimes, other times not so much. Relaxing music often helps lull me into dreamland, but the other day, nothing worked. I tossed and turned, couldn’t go back to sleep. Wide awake at 2 a.m., I decided to watch YouTube videos.

A video appeared on my “Recommended for You” feed that immediately got my attention. It was a lady I had never heard of before, Shelby Church, talking about making $6k from ONE article on Medium!
